Blog Resources

Starting a blog can be intimidating if you’ve never done it before and while I’d like to say it’s super easy, that wouldn’t necessarily be the truth.

There are a lot of moving parts, and I can see why someone would be intimidated. Thankfully, there is a lot of information on the internet to get you started. For my part, I’d like to share some blog resources that I use with my websites.

GETTING STARTED
  • Domain Registrar
    • GoDaddy
      • Not required, but I always purchase a domain even if I don’t purchase hosting.
      • It looks cleaner and is better for branding. (i.e. victoriaflip.com v. victoriaflip.freehosting.com)
  • Hosting
    • Lyrical HostPaid Hosting
      • There are many hosting options to choose from, but site personally uses Lyrical Host. Do your research and find the host that best works for you.
      • If you choose to use Lyrical Host, use code VICTORIAFLIP for 10% off
    • Blogger Free Hosting
      • Easy to customize, owned by Google, so very easy to integrate Adsense
      • You can set up a custom domain, which means that your purchased domain name is used in place of the domain.blogger.com
  • Content Management System
    • WordPress
      • If you go with paid hosting, you’ll need to set up your CMS. This is the software that you will use to create and manage your digital content.
      • I’m a fan of, and always use WordPress. Chances are your paid hosting service will have a one-click set up for WordPress for you.
    • NA
      • If you go with a free hosting service like blogger, the CMS is built right in. That is the service.
SITE DESIGN

Once your site is set up and ready for use, you will want to customize the site design to your liking. WordPress comes with a lot of free template that you can use and tweak, but if you’d like to get something a little more custom, you can either:

  1. Pay someone to design your site for you
  2. Purchase a template to use and customize it to your liking

Some great tools and resources include:

  • etsy – search for “wordpress template” or “blogger template” and a wealth of affordable templates will pop up for you to use
  • 17th Avenue – stylish, customizable WordPress themes
  • canva – web-based graphic design platform, with drag and drop, easy to use templates
  • unsplash – freely-usable images, to use on your blog
  • fiverr – freelance service marketplace – hire someone to do the work for you
  • dafont – downloadable fonts for you to use
MISCELLANEOUS

If there’s anything you’d like to see added to this list, please let me know as I will be updating this regularly.
